About Me
Hello! My name is Carolyn Parmer, and I'm a multimedia creator who connects with people through stories — whether they're written, photographed, or recorded in a podcast studio.
In May 2024, I graduated from UT Austin with high honors, a major in journalism, and minors in global communication and history. Currently, I'm in Madrid teaching English, photographing concerts, and creating email and social media content for various companies. Previous projects include a data analysis of Texas school board campaign finance reports, a data podcast, a music newsletter for Texas Highways, content creation for a digital marketing agency in Madrid, an Austin travel podcast, and articles for HoustonLive and The Daily Texan.
My Story
I am so thankful for the transformative opportunities at UT, including serving as the co-director of photography for Afterglow, writing for The Daily Texan, guiding new members in my sorority, working as a writing coach at the Moody College of Communication, and launching multiple podcasts and branded social media accounts. Every day, I practice Spanish in the hopes of becoming fluent and interviewing members of the Spanish-speaking community to amplify their voices.
My most transformative experience at UT was the Normandy Scholars Program. In the spring of 2022, I took five classes that dove deep into the World War II experience in the United States, Russia, Germany, Great Britain and France. I swapped my journalistic writing style for a historical one and wrote 30 pages about the most prominent objections to American women serving. That May, I traveled with my classmates and professors throughout France and Germany, and this experience inspired me to embark on more international journeys.
At the beginning of the fall semester 2023, I applied for an internship in Madrid and eagerly accepted a position as an intern at the digital marketing agency MIUS. Over the summer, I honed in my videography, photography, and copywriting skills to produce multiple social media posts a week, learned about the Spanish language and culture through conversations with my boss, and filled my weekends exploring Portugal, Italy, Barcelona, and the many delights of Madrid! Plus, I fulfilled my goal of photographing an international music festival when I captured acts such as King Princess and Mimi Webb at Mad Cool.
When I am not editing articles or pictures, I fill my time listening to music and podcasts, reading (Yes, I read the AP Stylebook for fun!) and exploring coffee shops.
